Trip to National Instruments (NI)
A trip to National Instruments (NI) was made on 22 April 2015 by 30 undergraduate students from the School of Mechanical Engineering USM. During the visit, students are exposed to overview of National Instruments (NI). Mr. Kar Foong, who is a representative from R&D department gave us a speech to inspire us, especially those who are interested in this field.

Mr Kar Foong is USM alumnus. He explained the jobs scope of mechanical design engineer and manufacturing engineer as well as electrical engineer in National Instruments to us briefly. Besides, he introduced a lot of products by NI such as PC-based DAQ, PXI and modular instruments, LabVIEW (NI core software), their technologies and their usage. After that, Mr. Ronald gave us a speech on their manufacturing overview. Then, students have been brought to have a plant tour on NI’s production line and several laboratories such as calibration laboratory and metrology laboratory. Person in charge, Mr. Azian and Mr. Zul explained patiently to the students about the function of those different sections on their manufacturing line, laboratory facilities and warehouse. In conclusion, the objective of this industrial visit was achieved and students have learnt more about the actual working environment of engineers.
