ASME Industrial Visit Exposes Students to Latest Semiconductor Technology

Batu Kawan, 29 April 2026 – The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Section Committee organized an industrial visit to Robert Bosch Semiconductor (M) Sdn. Bhd. at Batu Kawan Industrial Park, as part of an initiative to provide students with direct exposure to the engineering and high-tech manufacturing industry.

The program involved a total of 40 participants, comprising an accompanying lecturer, Muhammad Iftishah bin Ramdan, 29 students, and 10 ASME committee members. The visit aimed to introduce participants to semiconductor manufacturing processes, the latest automation technologies, and the real-world application of mechanical engineering within a multinational company.

During the visit, participants were exposed to cleanroom operations, highlighting the importance of controlled environments in producing high-precision components. They also had the opportunity to observe how robotics systems and artificial intelligence (AI) are integrated into production lines to enhance efficiency and minimize human error.

In addition, participants gained insights into stringent quality control practices, including testing methods to ensure that each semiconductor chip meets global automotive standards. Exposure to metrology systems, as well as optical and mechanical inspection techniques, further enriched the students’ technical knowledge.

The visit also provided a valuable platform for interaction between students and industry professionals, supporting career readiness while strengthening strategic ties between ASME and the industry for future collaborations.

The ASME Student Section expressed its sincere appreciation to Bosch for hosting the visit. The program not only achieved its academic objectives but also helped build students’ confidence and identity as future competent engineers.
