
USM Explores Collaboration Opportunities with AMETEK in Automation and Innovation
BAYAN LEPAS, PENANG, 15 May 2026 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the School of Mechanical Engineering, conducted an industrial visit to AMETEK in Bayan Lepas, Penang, as part of efforts to strengthen strategic collaboration between academia and industry in the field of automation and manufacturing innovation.
The USM delegation, comprising Prof. Madya Dr. Mohamad Ikhwan Zaini Ridzwan, Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fikri Mustaffa, Dr. Norzalilah Mohamad Nor, and Dr. Siti Nur Hanisah Umar, was given the opportunity to observe the operational workflow and manufacturing environment at the plant, particularly in the production of hybrid stepper motors and can stack stepper motors. The visit not only enhanced understanding of current industrial practices and automation requirements but also opened opportunities to contribute innovative ideas and technical expertise in addressing real industrial challenges, particularly in developing automation solutions for manufacturing processes.
The visit reflects USM’s continuous commitment towards strengthening university-industry engagement in supporting innovation, talent development, and sustainable industrial growth.
